Fire Protection & Fire Alarm System Design
Your Storage Units proposed a new multi-story self-storage facility in St. Cloud, Florida. The project consists of an approximately 122,800-square-foot, four-story storage building with climate-controlled storage areas, display areas, leasing office, drive-through loading area, elevators, stairs, and support spaces. The building height is approximately 62 feet, requiring a coordinated fire sprinkler, standpipe, and fire alarm design approach for a large vertical self-storage facility.
Engineering Fire Protection, LLC provided fire protection and fire alarm system design services to support the project from early coordination through bid-level design documentation. EFP coordinated with the project team and local fire plan reviewer, helped clarify permitting expectations, and prepared fire sprinkler and fire alarm design documents in accordance with applicable Florida fire code, NFPA 13, and NFPA 72 requirements.
For a large four-story self-storage project, the fire/life safety design required careful coordination with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, lighting, and civil design elements. EFP developed coordinated sprinkler, standpipe, fire service, and addressable fire alarm design documents, including hydraulic calculations, fire alarm battery calculations, voltage-drop calculations, device layout, sprinkler layout, and riser design. This helped the project team establish a clear fire protection strategy for permitting, bidding, and construction coordination while reducing uncertainty for the owner, architect, and contractors.
