Your Storage Units proposed a new climate-controlled self-storage facility in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The project consists of approximately 117,000 square feet of multi-story storage space, with multiple levels of individual storage units, drive-through access, elevators, stairways, and supporting building areas.

Engineering Fire Protection, LLC was retained to provide fire protection and fire alarm design services for the project. EFP’s work included preparation of bid-level fire sprinkler and fire alarm design documents, including drawings, specifications, hydraulic calculations, battery calculations, and voltage-drop calculations to support permitting, bidding, and construction.

For a large multi-story self-storage project, coordination between fire protection, fire alarm, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and lighting systems is important to avoid conflicts and support a smooth design process. EFP helped develop coordinated fire protection and fire alarm design documents based on applicable NFPA standards, South Carolina Fire Prevention Code requirements, and the project’s building layout. The design support helped the project team establish a clear fire/life safety approach early in the design phase, reduce uncertainty during permit review, and provide contractors with coordinated documents for construction pricing and implementation.
