Location
San Francisco, CA
Market
Multifamily Housing / Urban Infill / Residential Tower
Service
Fire Sprinkler, Standpipe and Fire Pump Design Consulting / Building Code Consulting
The 230 Anza Street project is an eight-story, eight-unit condominium development on a narrow urban site in San Francisco’s Inner Richmond neighborhood, near the University of San Francisco. The project replaces a vacant two-story residence with new housing and a basement garage, bringing a larger residential building to a constrained infill parcel.
Engineering Fire Protection participated in the design-build project, providing fire sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump design consulting, along with building code consulting. EFP helped the project team navigate high-rise fire protection and life safety requirements and coordinate the fire protection systems with the building layout.
The narrow site and limited equipment space created design challenges, along with the need to address secondary water supply provisions for a high-rise building in a seismic zone. EFP helped develop a suitable secondary water supply approach and a compact fire pump layout that made efficient use of the available space while meeting applicable code requirements. The coordinated design supported code-compliant fire protection for the condominium project.
