Scenic Wonders Fire Flow & Water Supply Consulting
Project Name
Scenic Wonders Employee Housing Project | Yosemite, CA
Market
Hospitality / Employee Housing / Rural Residential Development
Service
Fire Flow Analysis, Water Supply Evaluation & Building/Fire Code Consulting
The Scenic Wonders project involved a proposed employee housing and support facility serving the Yosemite West vacation rental community in Yosemite, California. The development was planned to provide much-needed workforce housing for Scenic Wonders staff, along with related support uses such as a commercial laundry facility, storage, parking, private water and septic infrastructure, and community fire safety improvements. The overall project included multiple residential-style buildings and support facilities, with the proposed development totaling approximately 23,000 square feet of building area and designed to house approximately 46 employees.
Engineering Fire Protection, LLC provided fire protection consulting services focused on the project’s water supply and fire flow strategy. EFP’s scope included coordination with building and fire officials, fire flow analysis, fire sprinkler system demand analysis, and recommendations for sizing key infrastructure, including the domestic water line, fire line, storage tank, domestic pump, and fire pump. EFP also provided building and fire code consulting support to evaluate fire separation strategies and help minimize required storage tank sizing.
A key challenge was that the project was located in a rural mountain setting with independent private water and septic systems, rather than a conventional municipal utility environment. EFP helped evaluate the fire protection demands across multiple buildings and supported a practical approach for coordinating domestic water demand, fire sprinkler demand, fire flow volume, water storage, and emergency response expectations.
The project also carried broader life safety and community resilience value. The Scenic Wonders project proposed private water storage, backup generators, additional fire hydrant access, fuel reduction work, and emergency communication improvements for guests and staff in the Yosemite West area. EFP’s consulting helped the owner and design team navigate fire department expectations, water supply constraints, and building/fire code requirements in a cost-conscious manner while supporting a safer and more resilient employee housing project.
