Ocean Deep Garden-B is a specialized cannabis manufacturing and distribution facility in Adelanto, California, involving the conversion of an existing approximately 32,000-square-foot warehouse into a regulated production facility. The project includes manufacturing, distribution, laboratory, storage, and support areas, with specialty extraction-related operations requiring careful coordination of California Building Code, California Fire Code, hazardous materials, mechanical ventilation, fire alarm, and fire protection requirements.

Engineering Fire Protection, LLC provided fire protection and fire code consulting services to support the project’s Phase 1 approval process. EFP prepared a detailed fire safety analysis report in accordance with California Fire Code requirements, addressing emergency response planning, building construction, occupancy/operation, fire protection systems, means of egress, hazardous materials management, and extraction room safety considerations.

A unique aspect of this project was the hazardous materials and extraction process review. The facility involved materials such as butane, ethanol, and pentane used in closed-pipe manufacturing systems, requiring careful evaluation of control areas, maximum allowable quantities, gas detection, emergency shutdown, ventilation, sprinkler protection, fire alarm integration, and operational safeguards. EFP also reviewed the applicable cannabis extraction code guidance, including expectations for extraction equipment review, Class I Division 1 environments, flammable gas detection, exhaust systems, and AHJ documentation.

EFP’s work helped the owner, operator, and licensing consultant organize a clear fire/life safety strategy for a technically complex cannabis manufacturing use within an existing industrial building. By combining fire code analysis, hazardous materials review, fire protection system evaluation, and practical safety planning, EFP helped the project team respond to jurisdictional requirements and move the specialized facility toward approval in a controlled and code-compliant manner.
